Meet Laleh Rezaei, MD

Dr. Laleh Rezaei, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician at Complete Pediatrics (http://www.completepediatrics.org/) and Specialty Care located in New Albany, Indiana. Dr. Rezaei began her medical career as an undergraduate student at Macon College in Macon, Georgia, where she earned an associate degree in nursing. She continued on to the University of Georgia in Athens, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. Prior to enrolling in medical school, Dr. Rezaei worked as a registered nurse in pediatrics, adult intensive care, and the open heart unit.

Dr. Rezaei earned her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky, where she went on to complete her residency in pediatrics. She completed the Functional Medicine Fellowship course at the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) in 2018 and the Functional Medicine Academy (FMA) certification program in 2024. She has a separate Functional Medicine Practice called Rez MD (www.rezmd.org).

Dr. Rezaei is a member of several medical professional associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Indiana State Medical Association, and the Kentucky Medical Association. She was awarded the Louisville Business First 2024 Healthcare Hero and received the 2022 Doctor of the Year by Business Leaders and Professionals. She was also recognized as the 2020 Top Pediatrician.

Complete Pediatrics and Specialty Care was awarded “2020 Quality Provider Champion” by Anthem Insurance, and her practice ranked #1 in the state of Indiana. In addition to caring for her patients, Dr. Rezaei is a board member of Floyd Memorial Foundation, where she is involved with the grant committee. She also served as Chief of Pediatrics for three consecutive years at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.

In her spare time, Dr. Rezaei enjoys traveling, gardening, pilates, and spending time with her two sons.

Vanessa Archibald, FMACC, is a certified health coach at Rez MD. She received her certification through Functional Medicine Academy (FMA). She began working with Dr. Rezaei because she wanted to use the knowledge she gained from raising her sons and teaching to help others. Vanessa has always enjoyed working with children.

Prior to working for Dr. Rezaei and becoming a health coach, Vanessa was an elementary teacher for 9 years. She ended her teaching career when her special needs son, Isaac, was born. She chose to be a full-time homemaker so that she could care for Isaac and his older brother, Alex. She gained valuable experience dealing with medical and emotional challenges that a family would face caring for a special needs child. When Isaac passed away suddenly, Vanessa knew she wanted to work in an atmosphere where she could use her life experiences to help others. She accomplished that by becoming a health coach in Functional Medicine.

In Vanessa’s spare time, she enjoys motorcycle rides with Robert, her husband of 20+ years. She also enjoys watching Alex excel in cross country, track, and computer programming. When she isn’t riding or at meets, she likes to care for her plants and spend time with family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a personalized, patient-centered approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness or imbalance in the body. It considers the complex interactions between genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors to optimize health and prevent disease.

How is Functional Medicine Different from Conventional Medicine?

Unlike conventional medicine, which often treats symptoms with medications or surgeries, functional medicine seeks to understand and address the underlying factors contributing to health issues. It emphasizes a holistic approach, aiming to promote wellness rather than just managing disease.

What Conditions Can Functional Medicine Treat?

Functional medicine can address a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions, including digestive disorders, hormonal imbalances, autoimmune diseases, metabolic issues, chronic fatigue, and more. It's particularly effective for conditions with complex underlying causes.

What Can I Expect During a Functional Medicine Consultation?

During a functional medicine consultation, you can expect a comprehensive assessment of your child's health history, symptoms, lifestyle factors, and environmental influences. Your practitioner will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan focused on addressing the root causes of your health concerns.

What Treatment Modalities Does Functional Medicine Use?

Functional medicine incorporates a variety of treatment modalities, including nutritional therapy, lifestyle modifications, stress management techniques, targeted supplementation, detoxification protocols, and mind-body therapies. The approach is highly individualized based on each patient's unique needs.

How Long Does it Take to See Results with Functional Medicine?

The timeline for seeing results with functional medicine varies depending on the complexity of your health issues, your adherence to the wellness plan, and other factors. While some patients experience improvements in symptoms relatively quickly, achieving long-term wellness often requires ongoing commitment and patience.
